Great service and good value set lunches.

My daughter's Cornish crab was deemed her now favourite starter of all time and my soft poached egg with Morteaux sausage purée was beautifully executed. Her mains of roast breast of Guinea Fowl was tender beyond belief ( as we all know Guinea Fowl can be pretty much hit or miss; dried up at the best of times) and my roast pollock was most definitely up there with the cod preparation at Texture.

A Michelin star beckoning. Go before the prices shoot up.

My wife and I have now been to this lovely restaurant on three occasions. It just seems to get better and better. Twice for dinner and yesterday for lunch with a friend also. The service is very friendly and charming, attentive without being in your face. The food is different and interesting. The sort of dishes you wouldn't dare attempt at home. Sometimes they can be a tiny bit over complicated but always interesting, (not sure about basil ice cream!) But everything is exremely fresh and well presented. Portions are small, in typical French style which is what we like anyway. But they are very rich and we have never left hungry!

All in all for us we find this restaurant hard to fault. Perhaps it could be a bit bigger inside. Some of the tables are a little close to each other. Decor is very tasteful and for a local restaurant to us it is of a very high quality. Full compliments to the chef and staff!

We sat there next to Fay Maschler and Joe Warwick on a quiet monday lunch. I was very excited to be there and when the menu arrived it all looked great. The room was nice but a little bizarre in that i thought it was a little oriental for a french restaurant.

Smoked eel veloute with white beans was delicious, very rich, smoky, silky and satisfying. It came with smoked olive oil which was hard to taste in the already smoky soup.
My friend had a foie gras ballontine that was very average and came wrapped in clingfilm. We pointed out to the waiter that Fay may wat her terrine without the clingfilm. They were not very amused.

A main course of pigeon was bland and forgettable. Served with vanilla and pear puree (not enough on the plate) and some turnips. Boring. A cold rhubarb crumble in a martini glass was also not to my taste.

The bill arrived once with the foie gras on and then again with the foie gras taken off and an apology. I feel i was there on a bad day and would try it again but places of this class should not have bad days.

L'Autre Pied, a stylish new addition to the Marylebone dining scene, is sister restaurant to the two-Michelin-starred Pied a Terre. We dined there one Friday evening with friends, and booking four weeks in advance we were only able to secure a table at 7pm. At the time of booking I was pleasantly surprised they did not mention anything about us having to vacate the table within a couple of hours, as is the expected norm with this type of restaurant.

We were greeted warmly, coats whisked away, and led to our small table for four. I looked longingly at the banquettes which appeared to be a bit more spacious, though they were set for larger groups that evening. Drinks were delivered quickly, along with olives and bread. Service continued to be friendly and efficient throughout our meal - though the constant topping up of water was irritating.

The wine list was very good - not the largest selection, but a good mix and reasonable prices. There were plenty of wines available by the glass and some by the 500ml carafe as well.

The Modern European menu had enough options to keep us all happy. Overall, food was very good, with a couple of standouts and a couple of not so successful combinations. To start, the Terrine of Beetroot, Goats Cheese Mousse and Balsamic jelly looked fabulous, but didn't quite live up to the hype, while the Slow cooked Monkfish Cheek, Oxtail Beignets and Cauliflower Cream was top class.

A main course of Steamed and Roasted Hare, Root Vegetable and Caramelised Garlic Puree was a popular choice at our table, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Gilt Head Bream, Salsify Puree and Rosemary Jus - it was a great combination of flavours.

The standout desserts were the Chocolate Mouse, Clementine’s Marmalade and Orange Ice Cream, and the Pain D'Epice Emulsion with Banana Ice Cream. Less successful was the Crushed Apple, Pistachio and Almond Crumble with Blackberry sorbet - the flavours didn't come together. While the presentation of the Warm Financier, Hazelnut Foam and Coffee Sorbet may have looked nice, it lessened the enjoyment of the dish, and the sorbet melted way too quickly.

After our meal we decided to stay and chat for a while, so ordered some more wine. Just as we were finishing it, we were informed that they needed our table - the time was now after 10pm and it turned out a couple had been having a drink at the bar since 9.30pm, waiting for us to leave. I was impressed that we had not been pressured to leave earlier, and that made our evening at L'Autre Pied all the more enjoyable.
